Psychic Shielding
Psychic shielding is a phenomenon that has long fascinated philosophers and scientists alike. As per Article 429 of the Interplanetary Psychic Rights Act (IPRA), any form of active psychic defense is strictly prohibited. This includes not just psychic shielding, but also more subtle forms of mental manipulation designed to confuse or distract others from reading one's thoughts. The reasoning behind this ban is simple: if everyone were able to block out each other's psychic energies, we would lose the very thing that makes us human - our empathy, our connection with one another.
Think about it - what would happen if you suddenly lost all ability to understand the emotions and motivations of those around you? You'd be forced to rely on cold, hard logic alone when making decisions. Your relationships would become transactional at best, antagonistic at worst.
